EFSA Health Claims Checker

Search 267 EU-authorised health claims instantly. Check exactly what you can say on your supplement labels, website, and marketing before you go to print.

What are EFSA health claims?

EFSA health claims are the only wording you can legally use when linking a nutrient to a health benefit in the EU and UK. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reviewed thousands of proposed claims and approved just 267 under Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006. If your wording is not on the approved list, you cannot use it on labels, websites, or marketing materials.

Every authorised claim comes with conditions of use. These specify minimum dosages, required label statements, and target populations. Using the approved wording without meeting the conditions is still non-compliant.

Article 13.1 vs Article 14 claims

Article 13.1 covers general function claims. These are the standard claims you see on most supplement labels, such as "Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system." They describe the role a nutrient plays in normal body functions.

Article 14 covers disease risk reduction claims and claims related to children's development and health. These require a more rigorous evidence standard and specific authorisation. Most supplement brands work with Article 13.1 claims. The claims in this tool are Article 13.1 authorised claims.

Why this matters for supplement brands

Trading Standards and the ASA actively enforce health claims regulations. Getting it wrong means product recalls, pulled ads, and reputational damage. For Amazon sellers, non-compliant listings get suppressed without warning.

The most common mistakes brands make: paraphrasing an approved claim (you must use the exact wording or something clearly equivalent), making a claim without meeting the conditions of use, and implying a health benefit through images or product names without using an authorised claim. If your label says "immune support" without the full authorised wording nearby, that is a problem.

How to use this tool

Type a nutrient name (e.g. "zinc", "magnesium", "vitamin D") or a health benefit (e.g. "immune system", "energy", "bones", "skin") into the search box above. You will see every authorised claim that matches, along with the exact conditions of use. Copy the approved wording directly into your labels, product descriptions, and ad copy. Always check that your product formulation meets the conditions listed.
